Commercial flights are not currently permitted out of Paine Field. The FAA expects to complete a final Environment Asessment by the end of 2011. The closest airport permitting passenger flights is Sea-Tac (SEA), up to an hour away from cities like Everett, Mukilteo, and Marysville.

Snohomish County is currently holding its Primary Election. Ballots must be dropped off before 8 pm on Election Day, August 16. There are numerous candidates running in the election and we have attempted to summarize their positions on allowing commercial flights from Paine Field below:

Message from Snohomish County Assessor Candidate Betty DeLay 8/8/2011 2:23 PM:
I live in a very quiet peaceful neighborhood, and I wish that for everyone. If my home was anywhere close to that situation I would vote against it. People need to be able to come home from work ect. and enjoy their homes... Vote or no vote, I would be against it..I am truthful.... .Betty DeLay

Message from Snohomish County Council District 2 Candidate Brian Sullivan 8/7/2011 8:31 PM:
In short I oppose commercial flights from Paine Field an issue I have been working on for almost 25 years.

Thank You
Brian

Message from Snohomish County Executive Candidate Aaron Reardon 8/7/2011 6:05 PM:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding my position on commercial service at Paine Field. I welcome your thoughts and feelings about this important issue.

My position has not wavered throughout my tenure as County Executive: I am opposed to commercial service at Paine Field and believe county government must respect role of the airport as defined in the Mediated Role Determination of the late 1970's.

This is an important issue facing Snohomish County in the election for County Executive. My opponent has received thousands of dollars from members of an Everett-based pro-commercial air service lobbying group who are angry about my opposition to commercial flight expansion.

Commercial service proponents are by far his largest campaign donors and are openly committed to using taxpayer resources to actively recruit and expand commercial service at Paine Field.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. If you have any other questions about where I stand on the important issues facing Snohomish County, please don't hesitate to call on me again.

Hi B.J.,

Thank you for taking the time to ask. I believe I have come to the conclusion that commercial flights at Paine Field would be do more harm than good.

Thank you,
Jason Mills

Message from Snohomish County Assessor Candidate Cindy Portmann 8/7/2011 7:52 PM:
Dear B.J.

Since the Assessor has no authority to vote for or against commercial flights from Paine Field or to influence those that do. I can only share that as an Assessor my responsibility would be to recognize any change in market value of properties if where to change in the future. Some people may think living near an airport would be negative due to noise issues and reduce the value of their homes. While others may see it as a postive - due to being closer to an airport. My job would be to recognize how the market reacts.

Message from Snohomish County Assessor Candidate Chris Vallo 8/8/2011 7:20 PM:
Mr B.J. Guillot,

Thank you for that question.

It is a very tough question...

Commercial air activity (passenger) helps grow the economy, makes for a much easier commute for those who live in the immediate area and helps fuel business opportunities here at home. Seatac is a very long commute and we spend money in that area instead of our own area. This can be a great opportunity if it's properly planned taking into consideration the noise and traffic mitigation. The airport expansion could have an effect on property value, some good some not so good. It will totally depend of the over all effects that expansion would impose in the surrounding community.

Pain field has been an airport for a very very long time with the capability to grow. Again, it's the noise, infrastructure and traffic that concerns most and if that can be controlled the airport will probably expand.

However, it is a great question that needs deep consideration and thorough study before moving forward.

I hope this helps.

Chris Vallo
Candidate for Snohomish County Assessor.

Thank you for your vote.
